Got A New Ride

It’s always nice when you design something, fabricate it, and it ultimately works. No matter how long you have working towards something, there are always questionable moments. The new cars designed for the larger coaster…the original one…is no different. But, to much surprise things went together seamlessly.

These cars are 3D printed, and even though I like things to fit smoothly there is always a correction to be made. Of all do the successes, there was one issue that arose. The front portion of the lead coach was a little too tight, so I had to trim a little from the print to allow proper articulation (roll).

Though it’s not the prettiest thing, for a prototype and testing it will work.

I have since updated the models and printed a third car with tighter fits for the ball joint. Needless to say, even though I will, it worked beautifully.

Currently, I am working on a simple track layout to test a few things: braking, banking, and friction. Also to note, the cars, despite being mainly PLA, are decently heavy. I will probably add weights to them in the final design to minimize inertia effects of friction. These cars can also be milled from aluminum and steel, in the future.

More to come soon!
